It’s time for another Nintendo console which means it is time for the predictions of Nintendo’s downfall to come out of the woodwork. Every console since the Super Nintendo has been predicted to be it’s last. It was during the N64 era that it spurned 3rd party developers and lost its leading market share in the console market and it hasn’t gained it back since. Here we are, almost sixteen years after N64′s release and Nintendo is still chugging along. No matter what anyone thinks about the Wii U, chances are it will be successful. I don’t mean successful as in being the market leader in consoles but rather make Nintendo a profit and keep them around for years to come because that is what they have been good at for almost the past twenty years.

Nintendo… please don’t

So yeah, you probably heard that Nintendo had a pre-E3 E3 event yesterday. I won’t go into too much detail. They are preparing to launch their newest console, the Wii U and the focus continues to be on that. First of all the Wii U is a console with the horsepower to compete with both the Xbox 360 and the PS3. It has a tablet like controller which will display additional content or mini-game type games. Announced yesterday was new controller for the Wii U that looks pretty close to an Xbox 360 controller called the Wii U Pro controller. Also announced was a new social network based on your Nintendo avatar or “mii” called the Miiverse. The last addition of any import is the use of NFC on the Wii U controller.

Now, I try very hard to make Leisurely Geeks a positive place. With that I will not go into a rant. I will also preface the next few statements with the fact that my household owns and has enjoyed all of the Nintendo consoles and their franchise characters are arguably the best in the gaming industry. With that being said I must ask the following questions.

1. Do any of us need another social network of our own or one for our children that we have to monitor?
