I’m surprised no one else here has picked this up yet. Valve announced yesterday that on September 5th, they will begin selling non-game software on Steam. No titles were mentioned in the Official Press Release, but of course there are plenty of rumors. Titles “will range from creativity to productivity,” and many “ will take advantage of popular Steamworks features.” See the full press release here.

Actually, they’ve been dabbling in this a bit already. I purchased Indie Game: the movie on there. Big screw you to Microsoft who wants everyone to use its store in Windows 8. At this point I go where Steam is best, even if it means not upgrading my main PC to 8. I have too many of my games there and at way cheaper than consoles or Microsoft’s own failed experiment Games for Windows Live. The big implication I have been Reading is the fact that if steam and content in it get ported to Linux. It could be the same force of android to mobile. A steam Linux distro would be amazing.
Yours Truly a triple booter
